Philips Launches SHERPA Project for AI-Assisted Surgical Workflows

Philips is leading the SHERPA research project; a multi-partner initiative focused on developing AI- and robotics-assisted technologies for minimally invasive treatments. 

The project aims to support procedures such as brain aneurysm repair and liver tumor treatment by integrating AI across imaging, planning, and real-time guidance. It is currently validated through multiple clinical studies across Europe. 

SHERPA works by combining AI algorithms, data visualization, and robotic assistance to automate repetitive tasks and support clinical decision-making throughout the treatment process. The initiative reflects a broader shift toward AI-enabled workflows in healthcare, aimed at improving precision, reducing clinician workload, and enhancing patient outcomes.
